Scope Story

How Shopiago helped Scope put everything in one place

With over 191 shops across the country, Scope’s strong retail presence is a fundamental piece of their fundraising puzzle. Back in July 2020 Scope began selling online using Shopiago, with the aim of maximising sales. Unlike many charity retailers, Scope receives a large number of brand new items donated by multinational corporations or by larger, more established retailers. When it came to enlisting Shopiago, Scope was particularly drawn to the platform's function for managing all of their inventory, across all their platforms, in one place. And, with the donated sales being attributed to individual shops, it struck the charity as a great solution for accurately and automatically recording sales insights. There are 14 million disabled people in the UK (that’s one in five of us). Scope is a disability equality charity carrying out vital work across England and Wales, campaigning for a society where all disabled people can enjoy equality and fairness. A shocking 6 in 10 people who’ve died from Covid-19 were disabled - meaning Scope’s work has never been more important.

The Challenge

Scope began struggling to keep up with their manual reporting processes, as more pressure was put on online sales during lockdown’s shop closures. Alongside this, corporate donations from large multinational ecommerce platforms became increasingly important to Scope over the course of the pandemic as it became harder for supporters to donate items to their local high street shops.
These items, often unavailable anywhere else, had the potential to sell for a far higher price point online. As well as increasing the charity’s profits, Scope were also keen to include these corporate donations in a system of automated reporting, as many of the items came in far greater quantities compared to second-hand, one-off donations.

It’s great to have a system in place where we can process orders properly and provide our customers with a really great service.

The Shopiago roll-out

The charity decided to roll out Shopiago, to help charity shops move stock faster, get better sale prices, and operate more efficiently. Previously, Scope was using a manual system to record online sales, but Shopiago was provided to the e-commerce warehouse team.
Shopiago also trained staff initially online during lockdown, and then face-to face on site. The team quickly understood the benefits of the platform, and started using it to manage listings straight away.
Following the success of the Shopiago roll out, and as part of Scope’s long-term growth, the charity is now planning to launch an online shop, featuring a range of brand new, luxury items created by designers with disabilities. Shopiago’s integration with Shopify will help streamline the online sales process and maximise funds raised for Scope’s vital work.
"

Through using Shopiago for picking and integrating the platform with Shipengine to print the despatch labels, we will easily be able to bring in volunteers when we need extra help with orders. People will just hit the ground running because it's really straightforward and easy to use.

Results

Since using Shopiago, Scope has seen a huge increase in revenue, charting a £20,000 increase in Gift Aid contributions, which may have otherwise been lost if it weren’t for the platform’s Gift Aid tracking feature.
Online sales rose from £8K to £43K monthly between August 2020 and July 2021, and the number of items sent out by shops tripled between September 2020 and July 2021.
