Shopiago is the sister company of World of Books, a Sussex-based company that sells quality used books at competitive prices to millions of customers worldwide each year. Established by a group of dedicated book lovers, World of Books was founded on an ethos to do good, to help charity shops and to make a positive impact.
World of Books is a circular economy, for profit company that supports charities and protects the planet by enabling more goods to be reused. World of Books purchases significant volumes of donated books from UK charities, taking the titles they don’t want or haven’t got space for. So as well as preventing the destruction of perfectly good books, their customers are helping to support good causes too – boosting revenues for these charities and saving them waste disposal costs. Their business model has generated over £12m for UK charities in the last 5 years. Where they’re unable to find a used book a new home, they ensure it doesn’t go to waste, and instead goes on to become something else. World of Books consider themselves pioneers in the re-use and recycling of unwanted books, recycling 26,000 tonnes, about 70 million books each year, equivalent to 500,000 trees. All of their paper waste is recycled within the UK.
World of Books developed software to help their team research, value and list older, rarer books without barcodes much faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively. Leading charities like British Heart Foundation and Barnardo’s were so impressed by how much this software boosted productivity, they began to use it themselves to power their eBay stores. We engineered the product so that we could deploy it quickly, easily, consistently but flexibly for any charity or used goods retailers and Shopiago was born!
Shopiago is a for-profit software company that supports charities and protects the planet by enabling more goods to be reused. We’re passionate about getting charity retailers online, exposing their goods to buyers around the world, growing sales and maximising selling prices.
The more used goods that find a new home, the less end up in landfill or otherwise harming our fragile environment. So Shopiago isn’t just a software company. Every day we make good on our commitment to help charities and the good causes they support and to make an important contribution to saving the planet.
